If you swallow a nail,
just drink some alcohol
This documentary spends a summer with my grandparents, who are grappling with hearing loss and Alzheimer's. Yet the film is not just another family documentary. Durational shots and the slow-paced rhythm of the work are deployed for the observation of the details in their quotidian lives. My own position as both their granddaughter and the filmmaker is challenged in the work, and the power dynamic between us is always in flux. This work deals with time, gender, age, class and social structure, while interrogating the presence of the apparatus in a self-reflexive manner.
